Warning: SPOILERS for 9-1-1 season 8, episode 15.9-1-1’s tragic character death was a series-defining moment, but it’s possible Bobby Nash won’t be gone forever. Peter Krause’s alleged exit from 9-1-1 season 8 comes after the two-part thriller— known as the Contagion saga— culminated in Bobby succumbing to CCHF (Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever). While 9-1-1 easily could have saved Bobby, the fire captain of LAFD station 118 sadly left the quarantined lab in a body bag.
Yet, Bobby’s death in 9-1-1 season 8 may be more than it appears. From subtle moments in the dramatic death scene to potential spoilers posted by the cast, there are clues that Bobby’s death may have been a fake-out. Only time will tell if 9-1-1 season 8 is truly pulling a bait-and-switch, but Bobby’s tragic fate is ironically still up in the air.

The Lyrics To Bobby’s Death Song
“Work Song” Is About Immortal Love
With lyrics like “no grave can hold my body down,” it’s obvious why Hozier’s “Work Song” raised flags when it began to play in 9-1-1 season 8, episode 15. As Bobby said goodbye to the love of his life— Angela Bassett’s Sergeant Athena Grant, the love song fades in. The sentiment, however, inspires some blind optimism rather than the bittersweet moment where death did them part.

9-1-1 season 8, episode 15 ended in tragedy, but one heartbreaking parallel from Athena’s backstory episode makes it all much more painful.
The song choice feels deliberate enough to be a clue that Bobby is alive in 9-1-1, but it could also be taken at face value. The love song could simply be a love song to underscore how devastating it is for Bobby and Athena to be saying goodbye. That said, if Bobby “crawls home” to Athena in the coming weeks, this would be perfect foreshadowing.

The Mysteries Of Moira’s Super-Strain
The Science Is Novel (And Fantastical)
9-1-1’s Moira Blake (Bridget Regan) was a classic evil scientist— a misunderstood genius whose ambition superseded her morals. The virus that killed Bobby was an entirely new super-strain of CCHF that Moira created, alongside an antidote. Since a typical case of CCHF can induce symptoms that mimic death, it isn’t unreasonable to suggest that Moira’s strain could create an intense death-like state.
If 9-1-1 is actually planning on resurrecting Bobby, this would be the most logical explanation. Bobby dying from a CCHF strain that only takes 90 minutes to incubate is already wildly unrealistic, so the inverse could be just as fitting in a future 9-1-1 plot. Plus, Moira seemed to fade into the background far too quickly during 9-1-1: Contagion; learning more nuances about the super-strain could help enrich her character.

9-1-1 Season 8’s Religious Imagery
Bobby Died Just Before Easter
Many scenes throughout 9-1-1 season 8 have felt uncannily biblical, and the procedural could consequently be setting up a resurrection for its most religious character. Aside from his faith being a core tenant of his character, Bobby’s actions in 9-1-1: Contagion mirror the story of Jesus before the crucifixion. Most convincingly, Bobby’s death aired the night before Good Friday— the day observed by Christians to commemorate the death of Jesus.

The twist ending of 9-1-1 season 8, episode 15 was jaw-dropping on its own, but it’s even more heartbreaking in context of another character’s plot.
Bobby’s religion has been at the forefront of the series since 9-1-1 season 8, episode 11 introduced his evangelical mother, Ann (Lesley Ann Warren). If anything, Bobby mirroring Jesus would be the natural progression for 9-1-1. Should Bobby come back to life (or reveal he was never dead) in 9-1-1 season 8, episode 16, the timing would perfectly mimic Jesus’ temporary death leading up to Easter Sunday.

Leaked Script Of Bobby Being Buried Alive
Oliver Stark’s Instagram Story Stirred The Pot
Following 9-1-1 season 8, episode 15, many cast members publicly posted farewells to Bobby Nash (and, by extension, Peter Krause). Long before 9-1-1: Contagion aired, however, Oliver Stark (Evan “Buck” Buckley) posted something much more unusual to his Instagram story: a portion of a script with dialogue revealing Bobby has been buried alive. Stark quickly deleted the story, but the damage had been done.
Nothing is as compelling as a cast member outright confirming the dramatic death isn’t real, but timing is everything. Stark posted the script to his Instagram story on April 1, 2025— also known as April Fools’ Day. The same script appeared in a story on Jennifer Love Hewitt’s (Maddie Han) Instagram, but it could easily have been a cast-wide prank. Given that the script was allegedly written for “The Last Call” (9-1-1 season 8, episode 16), it will quickly be debunked if it is a hoax.

Brad Torrance/The “Hotshots” Plot
9-1-1 Season 8’s Nuisance Character Could Be The Key
Callum Blue’s Brad Torrance was one of the most unique additions to 9-1-1 season 8: an egomaniacal actor in an in-universe firefighter procedural called “Hotshots” (where he plays Captain Race Banner of the 119). After a midlife crisis of sorts, Brad plans to let “Hotshots” kill off Captain Banner. After Brad talks a civilian off the ledge in 9-1-1 season 8, episode 8, he changes his mind.

If the kitschy storyline was setting the scene for Bobby’s arc in the second half of 9-1-1 season 8, Captain Nash can expect a miracle to pull through, too. Paralleling the ridiculous “Hotshots” plot would be an absurd yet hilarious bookend for Bobby’s temporary death, but 9-1-1 might opt for a more permanent resolution (or lack thereof).
