Million Dollar Secret‘s winner, Cara Kies, said the secret to her success on the show was her sharp sixth sense, which led her to eventually win a million dollars. Cara and 11 other hopefuls competed on Million Dollar Secret season 1 on Netflix, each vying to last long enough to be the last one standing—and holding a box containing a million dollars. The show stole elements from The Traitors, but made the concept its own: These are regular folks competing, not celebrities, which makes it easier for the contestants to lie about their pasts in order to advance.

Cara started out the season rather unassumingly. She was overshadowed by bigger personalities like Sam Sepulveda, Sydnee Falkner, and Corey Niles. In the end, it came down to these three plus Cara as the final four, but Cara ended up winning the entire thing.

I think Cara’s ability to fly under the radar and not draw attention to herself was a big part of why she won.

That, and her intuition, which she said was strong and guided her through her time at The Stag.

Cara’s Intuition Told Her She’d Win

Cara’s Intuition Is “Wild”

In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, Cara said her ability to fly under the radar was beneficial. In the beginning, she said, “you can’t be too loud, and you can’t be too quiet.Cara managed to find that sweet spot, so when she was secretly named the new millionaire during episode 7, she was able to ride her middle-of-the-road strategy and unbreakable poker face straight through to the very end.

Cara had another secret weapon: her inner voice, which told her she’d end up the victor before the show even started. Cara relied on her inner monologue to help her outsmart her competitors. She just had to trust it. Cara said on an episode of Nick Viall’s The Viall Files podcast that her “intuition is wild” and that she knew her box would contain the million dollars after it was randomly redistributed.

“That morning, when I put on my cross, I knew that I was getting the money. So when I tell you guys my intuition is wild, it is. And now, people understand. … When I had opened the box, I said I knew it.”

Cara was right to trust her gut. She told Tudum she’d always had a strong intuition, ever since she was a child: “I’ve always had that intuition since I was a little girl. I think God blessed me with incredible discernment, and I’ve always used it to the best of my ability. … I stayed true to myself and trusted my intuition the whole time, every single move I made.”

Cara’s Intuition Told Her To Lie About Siblings

Cara’s Lie Won Her The Game

In one of Million Dollar Secret‘s most stunning scenes, Sam is given a secret clue that the millionaire among them has two sisters. Sam sets out to try and casually find out how many siblings the remaining players had without drawing too much suspicion on herself. Sam and Cara had developed a friendship, so Sam wanted to rule Cara out as the potential millionaire as fast as she could.

As Sam and Cara sat at a table, Sam subtly began questioning Cara about her family. Sam said that Cara’s makeup reminded her of her sister back home, and then innocently asked Cara whether she had a sister. In this moment, we can see Cara’s face begin to change. It’s not very obvious, but you can actually see Cara’s brain work. And without skipping a beat, Cara told Sam she had one sister back home.

Cara has two sisters. She lied to Sam.

Without any warning or context, Cara’s instincts told her to lie to Sam.

As soon as Cara said she only had one sister, Sam’s veneer changed. She let down her guard, assuming Cara wasn’t the millionaire, and shared that she had a secret clue that the millionaire has two sisters. In a confessional, Cara explained her decision to lie.

“I knew someone was going to get a clue about me. My intuition never lies. And I had a feeling it was going to be about my siblings. I have two sisters.”

This feat alone proves that Cara’s intuition is serious stuff. How could she have known that Sam’s question was actually trying to suss out a clue? She relied on her gut, and it steered her in the right direction. It’s a lesson many of us can learn from.

Cara’s Intuition Told Her Corey Moved The Money To His Box

Cara Outsmarted Corey

Cara’s strategy and intuition got her to the final three on Million Dollar Secret. As she, Sam and Corey stood in the Trophy Room with their boxes, one containing the million dollars, they were forced to play a blind game of shuffle. They were each allowed to privately swap the contents of their boxes, without knowing whose box contained the money.

Another win for Cara’s intuition: She changed course and tried to subtly convince Corey she was the millionaire, hoping he’d move the contents of her box to his, so she could then steal it back.

It was a huge risk, but Cara once again let her intuition guide her.

And it worked: Corey moved the contents of Cara’s box to his, and then Cara moved it back to hers. She didn’t know whether she had been right until her box was opened to reveal a crisp one million dollars.

Million Dollar Secret season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
