Nicolas Cattelan is the new Deckhand on Below Deck Down Under, and I think he and Stew Marina Marcondes de Barros will have the better boatmance aboard the Katina. Below Deck Down Under season 3 has been rife with drama so far, with Captain Jason Chambers firing Bosun Wihan Du Toit and Deckhand Johnny Arvanitis in one fell swoop. Johnny and Alesia Harris were on track to win cutest couple, but Johnny’s time was cut short when he punched a wall after Alesia accidentally got into bed with Wihan.
However, that’s not the only drama. Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph was pleased to get a Sous Chef aboard the Katina, but Anthony Bird didn’t like her leadership style and took a job aboard another yacht. Meanwhile, Chef Tzarina and Chief Stew Lara Rigby’s feud could reach a boiling point, with Lara even involving Alesia in their burgeoning fight. Amid all the madness, Nick and Marina could be a bright spot. I think they’re already way more exciting than Brianna Duffield and Harry Van Vilet. Here’s why.
Nick Could’ve Gotten Fired On Below Deck Down Under
He Took A Shot With Guests On His First Charter
Nick has already been way more exciting than Brianna or Harry from the start because of his accidental rule break during his first charter. With only six months of yachting experience, he was eager to prove himself aboard the superyacht Katina. However, a single lapse in judgment during a guest’s drinking game nearly jeopardized his position. Luckily, he’s just too honest and sweet to let it slide.

During an after-dinner beer pong game, a charter guest promised Nick a shot if she succeeded in her turn. Upon winning, she ordered a tequila shot and handed it to him. Caught in the moment, Nick accepted and drank it, unaware of the impending consequences. Brianna, shocked, witnessed the incident and reminded him that they couldn’t drink on charter. I think it was pretty obvious that Nick didn’t realize the rules.
“Oh, God, I can’t believe I just did that. Captain Jason runs a dry boat. This could get me fired. That was so stupid.“
In a confessional, sweet baby Nick admitted, “Oh, God, I can’t believe I just did that. Captain Jason runs a dry boat. This could get me fired. That was so stupid.” Determined to take responsibility, he decided to confess the incident to Captain Jason. The Captain appreciated Nick’s honesty and chose to sweep it under the rug, using it as a teachable moment. While he expressed disappointment, he chose not to terminate Nicolas’s employment, instead viewing the incident as a teachable moment.
Luckily for Nick, his luck would soon turn during a crew night out. While drama unfolded between Chef Tzarina, Alesia, and Lara, Marina and Nick had fun dancing and even kissing. Marina was genuinely shocked that Nick had any interest in her at all. In interviews, she admitted she had no clue he was crushing on her, which was extra sweet considering Marina’s ill-fated date with Wihan earlier in the season. Nick and Marina’s chemistry could be exactly what Below Deck Down Under season 3 needs.
Marina Has A More Interesting Personality Than Brianna
She’s Fun & Spicy
I don’t mean to insult Brianna at all, but Marina just seems so much more interesting than Brianna. She hasn’t gotten enough screen time yet this season because her main drama involves wanting to learn more about service from Lara, who wants to keep her on cleaning and cabins despite her desire to grow. However, now there could be a chance to get to know Marina better since she’s involved in a boatmance.
Marina is a hardworking and eager Stew who just wants to succeed.
Though Nick is new to the yachting scene, his sweet-natured humility and ability to own up to mistakes were a major turn-on for Marina. Their interactions feel natural and lighthearted. Unlike many Below Deck hookups that feel fueled by production pressure or party nights gone wild, this romance feels grounded in something more real. Who knows what will happen, but I’m just excited to get to know Marina better.
Brianna And Harry’s Boatmance Is Boring
Brianna Just Doesn’t Seem That Into Harry
Compare that to Brianna and Harry’s romance, which started with promise, but has started to show cracks. While Harry is kind and eager, Brianna’s frustration over his slow emotional pace has made him a little cringeworthy. She’s not into his lack of initiative, and their chemistry has started to fizzle. What could have been a sweet slow burn now feels more like a friendship caught in neutral. Overall, Brianna and Harry need to move over, because there’s a new boatmance in town on Below Deck Down Under. I’m solidly team Marina and Nick.
Below Deck Down Under season 3 airs on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo and streams the next day on Peacock.
