Lune is the second playable character you’ll come across in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and she introduces you to a slightly more complicated version of combat than you experienced with Gustave. Lune’s combat mechanics revolve around Elemental Stain effects, which accumulate as she performs individual Skills with a given element. Lune can generate and consume five different Elemental Stains: Fire, Ice, Earth, Lightning, and a unique Light Stain. These Stains can then be used to buff skills of a corresponding elemental type, such as Ice Stains enhancing Fire attacks, Fire enhancing Lightning, and so on.

As you explore the Continent and become familiar with the different features in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you will come across some excellent weapons and Pictos that Lune can take advantage of for one of the most powerful character builds possible. The most effective build for Lune incorporates both Lightning and Fire-based skills and will synergize extremely well with my recommended Maelle build in Clair Obscur. This build is more of an offensive approach to gameplay in Clair Obscur for Lune, but she can also easily be set up for a support class with Skills that buff revive and health.

Give Them Hell With Lune’s Fire & Lightning Skills

Clair Obscur Lune Build SKills

Lune is an extremely versatile character that you can take in any direction, but I found her Fire and Lightning skills too good to pass up, especially with a Maelle build designed around Fire and Stance-breaking attacks. In the early game, you can take advantage of the synergizing Skills Immolation and Thermal Transfer to acquire more AP and stack Burn on enemies in Act 1.

Immolation benefits from attacks on Marked targets, so be sure to use Gustave’s Marked Shot if Lune is next in line in combat. Thermal Transfer will give Lune 4 AP if used against a Burning target, so plan accordingly.

Clair Obscur is coming soon to Xbox, PC, and PS5, but will it be on Game Pass starting day one, or will you need to buy it separately to play?

Lune’s best Fire skill is called Hell, and it can have absolutely devastating effects if you set it up properly. Ultimately you want to end up with the following Skills, though these can be swapped out based on your preferred playstyle:

  1. Electrify
  2. Wildfire
  3. Storm Caller
  4. Fire Rage
  5. Crustal Crush
  6. Hell

Electrify is a low-cost skill that gives you two Lightning Stains and will set you up for a powerful Crustal Crush attack in the next round. Crustal Crush deals high single-target Earth and Break damage, and will set you up for the advanced Hell attack after gaining another Lightning Stain. Once you have a Light, Lightning, and Earth Stain stacked up, Hell will deal very high Fire damage and stack a minimum of 5 Burn on each enemy, and with the requisite Stains consumed, the damage is greatly increased.

Because Light Stains can be used in place of any other Elemental Stain, you don’t need to have skills of each Element active to acquire the necessary Stains for Lune’s additional Skill buffs.

Wildfire and Fire Rage are two additional Fire Skills that impact multiple enemies. Wildfire deals Medium Fire damage to all enemies and adds 3 Burn stacks apiece, while Fire Rage deals exponentially higher Fire damage each turn until Lune takes damage. Storm Caller is a powerful Lightning Skill with a unique effect that deals damage at the end of the turn and additional Lightning damage every time an enemy is hit. Storm Caller can be swapped out with Mayhem for a more all-purpose Skill; Mayhem consumes all Stains to deal damage of each corresponding elemental type per Stain consumed.

Best Weapons & Attributes For Lune In Clair Obscur

The Lighterim Is Available Early & Is Perfect For Fire Damage

The best weapon for Lune’s Fire build is Lighterim, found relatively early in Act 1 at Spring Meadows near the Indigo Tree. Lighterim reduces the AP cost of Fire Skills at Level 4, making it slightly easier to cast Fire attacks more regularly without worrying about AP. At Level 10, the Lighterim’s upgrade bonus increases Fire damage with Skills by 20%, and at Level 20 you will receive an automatic Ice Stain when you start battle. Ice Stains will enhance your Fire skills, and this extra Stain comes in handy once you enter the late game.

Lighterim also scales primarily with Defense, giving Lune the necessary damage reduction in case you don’t quite have your Parry and Dodge timing perfected. Defense will increase Lighterim’s weapon damage and also buff Lune’s damage resistance, making it the main skill you want to invest in. After that, Agility is Lighterim’s secondary scaling attribute, and you’ll be in a good position with high Agility as this will both increase Lighterim’s weapon damage and allow Lune to have more turns during combat encounters.

Best Pictos & Luminas For Lune

Double Burn & Shield Buffs Are Ideal

Clair Obscur Lune full loadout best build

If you aren’t using the Double Burn Pictos on Maelle, equip it on Lune for this build as it has a high Luminas cost and an excellent stat buff, increasing both Speed and Critical Rate. Otherwise, make sure you equip the Double Burn Luminas to take advantage of the extra Burn stacks. Outside of this, I recommend the Base Shield and Shield Affinity Pictos, which will give Lune extra damage buffs with Shields active and automatically grant her a shield at the start of a turn if she doesn’t have any.

Most enemies in Act 1 and Act 2 are susceptible to Fire damage, but even those that are resistant to Fire will take damage from large Burn stacks.

With these Pictos, be sure to have a support build character such as Monoco or Sciel to buff Lune with more Shields and, by extension, increase her damage considerably. When it comes to passive Lumina effects, AP buffs are always recommended, such as the Energising Start and Energising Death Luminas. The Shell Luminas will also further enhance Lune’s defenses and include the Auto Shell, SOS Shell, Longer Shell, and Greater Shell Lumina passives. Burning Mark is another good option as long as you have a character that can Mark enemies.

Overall, Lune is capable of serious damage to even the toughest enemies in the late game. Don’t feel pigeon-holed into one build type for Lune, however, as it’s a good idea to switch up her skills and weapons if you run into a Fire-resistant enemy. She is one of the few characters that can reliably and consistently deal every major type of elemental damage. With so many different skills available for Lune, there’s nothing wrong with switching things up and trying an alternative approach to combat in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
