Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX completely changed its trajectory in the best of ways with episode #4, and it left plenty to be excited about for episode #5 and beyond. With the series now completely past the theatrical preview, there’s no way of knowing how the story will progress, but if episode #4 is anything to go on, there’s still plenty to look forward to.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX episode #4 was the first episode to go past Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’s theatrical preview and had Machu and Shuji dominating Clan Battles. One day, as Machu contemplated her future and her relationship with Shuji, Machu met Shiiko Sugai, a Federation veteran of the One Year War whose partner was killed by Char, and from there, Machu fought against Shiiko in a Clan Battle as she sought revenge against the Red Gundam for killing her partner. It was an appropriately dramatic episode, and however episode #5 decides to follow it up will be great to see.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Episode 3 Review: A Great End To GQuuuuuuX’s Prologue
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Episode 3 In Review
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX episode #3 was the end of what was covered in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’s theatrical preview, and it went out with a bang. The character and narrative writing remain as strong as ever and ended the three-episode run on a definite high note, and the consistent and all-around strong animation going along with that does wonders to sell that even further. Mobil Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX episode #3 ends things on as high a note as the theatrical preview did, and there’s no telling where things will go from here.
The only thing that’s confusing at the end of everything is what Nyaan’s role in the story will be. While episode #1 and the ending theme put a lot of focus on Machu and Nyaan’s dynamic, episode #3 gives Machu a far more intimate relationship with Shuji, and with how passive Nyaan has been written to be, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX episode #3 makes it hard to tell what role Nyaan will serve in the overarching plot. Future episodes of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX will undoubtedly clear the issue up, and hopefully, it won’t take long to see that happen.
What Happened In Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Episode 4?
Produced By Sunrise And Studio Khara; Directed By Tetsuro Araki
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX episode #4, “The Witch’s War”, while Machu was finding great success in Clan Battles, her regular life was less okay as she struggled to come up with a career for after graduation, which her mom quickly chastised her for. Shuji, the enigmatic Gundam character that he was, only told Machu that he wanted to go to Earth to help the Red Gundam find a “rose” when asked about his dreams, and while that inspired Machu to want to go to Earth, she still didn’t have a specific goal for herself.
As Machu was struggling with her future and with understanding Shuji, she had a sudden encounter with Shiiko Sugai, a Federation unicum from the One Year War known as the legendary Witch. While Shiiko was supposed to be living in retirement with her family, Shiiko held a grudge against the Red Gundam because the Red Gundam’s Pilot, Char Aznable, killed her partner in the One Year War, and when she learned that the Red Gundam was fighting for the Pomeranians, Shiiko joined a Federation-funded team in a Clan Battle against the Pomeranians to get her revenge against the Red Gundam.
Shiiko’s incredible experience and use of a special hook for increased maneuverability left Machu unable to do anything as Shiiko focused everything on fighting Shuji. During the battle, Shiiko’s latent Newtype powers synchronized with Shuji’s to tell her that it wasn’t Char inside the Red Gundam, but she refused to believe and kept going after him with a big attack. Not only did Shuji dodge the attack, though, but Shuji ended the battle with Shiiko by blowing up her Mobile Suit and killing her, the episode ending with her learning something about Shuji’s true motives before her death.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Teases The Return Of A Classic Gundam Hero
How GQuuuuuuX Might Bring Back A Classic Gundam Character
Amidst all the drama of GQuuuuuuX episode #4, the series subtly teased the return of a major character from the original series. The mysterious song heard when the Kira-Kira appears has now officially been named the La-La Song, a clear reference to Lalah Sune of the original Gundam anime, which suggests that Lalah Sune will have a part to play in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX thanks to her implied connection to the La-La Song and the Kira-Kira. What her part will be and how it might connect to Char is unclear, but it’s still something great to look forward to.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Continues Its Story With Its Biggest Episode Yet
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Continues To Deliver On All Fronts
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX finally moved past the theatrical preview with episode #4, and it was an appropriately big episode. Visually speaking, episode #4 had some of the best animation of the series to date, as not only was there a notable uptick in 2D animation, but the 3D models were also utilized exceptionally well to make the final fight stunning from start to finish. Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX episode #4 had the anime’s best mixture of 2D and 3D animation to date, and hopefully, the rest of the series will be even better.
Episode #4 was also great to watch from a narrative perspective. Not only was Shiiko’s story incredibly tragic and executed in a way that made it great to watch, despite how quick it was, but Shuji’s development into a far more complicated figure was the perfect way of throwing the story through a loop, as was Machu’s clear confusion over how to react to his true nature. Four episodes in, and Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX keeps finding new ways to make its story interesting, all of which will surely only get better in the upcoming weeks.
Everything that made episode #4 so great, of course, stems from the staff behind it. Episode #4 was animated and directed by legendary anime director Tetsuro Araki of Death Note and Attack on Titan fame, and sure enough, Tetsuro Araki’s years of experience led to Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX episode #4 being pure visual and narrative spectacle from start to finish. Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX continues to be one of the best anime of spring 2025, and if episode #4 is anything to go on, there’s even greater content for fans to look forward to in episode #5.
Be sure to watch Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX episode #5 when it releases on Tuesday, May 6.
