A key crew member for the Mr. & Mrs. Smith show shares an update about the second season. Mr. & Mrs. Smith originated as a 2005 movie that starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The duo played a married couple whose worldview is shattered when they discover they are both secret assassins. In 2024, creators Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane put out a TV adaptation of Mr. & Mrs. Smith that swapped Pitt and Jolie for Glover and Maya Erskine. Since the show’s 2024 debut, Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2 has been confirmed.
In an interview with ScreenRant at the ASCAP Screen Music awards red carpet, Mr. & Mrs. Smith composer David Fleimg provides an update on the second season. The composer was honest in noting that “they definitely haven’t started filming it yet.” On the optimistic side, though, he said that “they’ve written it” even though “there’s a lot of moving parts to figure out on that one.” Check out the full quote from Fleming below:

Season 2 Does Not Have A Release Date
Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 1 was released in bulk in February 2024, and the second season was announced in May 2024. There is no confirmed release date for the second installment. Fleming’s update puts a 2025 release out of the question, and casts doubt as to how early on in 2026 the project might arrive. The completion of the writing phase is good progress, but the show will have to start filming in the next few months if it aims to arrive in the first quarter of 2026.

Fleming keeps it pretty vague when he notes the number of “moving parts” involved in Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2. Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, leaving the leads’ fates uncertain, but further casting info has suggested the lead will be replaced. If Erskine and Glover are still to appear in the sophomore season in some capacity, their schedules could be a limiting factor to its development.

I’m Excited For Season 2
Hopefully, these challenges do not pose too much of an issue for the development of Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2. While definitely aided by its fantastic leads, the first season was entertaining and a promising start to what could be a great series. Both rumored season 2 leads, Sophie Thatcher and Anora‘s Mark Eydelshteyn are budding stars with exciting careers, which will make the next installment even better. As such, it would be great if season 2 could come sooner rather than later.
