While A Minecraft Movie sequel hasn’t been officially announced, the movie’s massive success essentially guarantees that a continuation will happen eventually. Jason Momoa’s Garrett, while a great inclusion, felt like his story had concluded by the end of A Minecraft Movie. While he could be brought back as one of the main characters again, having Kate McKinnon as Alex replace him would be a natural evolution of the franchise.
Kate McKinnon was revealed to be part of the cast in January 2024, but her role wasn’t revealed until the release of the movie this year.
Of course, given the success of the first film, Warner Bros. and Mojang will probably want to try replicating it as much as possible for whatever Minecraft‘s sequel is about. Movie studios seem to want to play it safe more often than not these days, and dropping an actor like Momoa could be seen as a risk. That said, Kate McKinnon would make for a great addition to A Minecraft Movie 2, even more so if paired with Jack Black.
