Embark Studios’ upcoming extraction shooter ARC Raiders has just recently begun its second tech test, giving players a chance to try the game early, and it’s already featuring a new content update in the form of Night Raids. The third-person shooter is set to release into early access sometime later this year, but Tech Test 2 is off to a strong start, and is already introducing a way for players to find high-tier loot.
Though the Night Raid icons have been viewable in-game next to a timer since Tech Test 2 began, the official ARC Raiders X (formerly Twitter) account has confirmed that Night Raids feature high-tier loot, but come with added danger in the form of a colossal ARC known as the Queen. According to the timers in-game, the first Night Raid began on the Spaceport map at 5:00pm ET on May 1, with more following on the other two maps, Dam Battlegrounds and Buried City. Each Night Raid is temporary, with each timer starting a new countdown for when it will become available on that map again.
Night Raids Bring A New Enemy To ARC Raiders Tech Test 2, The Queen
The Biggest ARC Yet
While the opportunity to snag some incredible loot is certain to draw players to the Night Raids, the real marquee feature is an ARC robot more formidable than those found in normal matches. The Queen was previously teased in ARC Raiders‘ Tech Test 2 announcement trailer, shown in silhouette behind an unaware Raider when lightning strikes in the middle of the night. ARC Raiders‘ robots used machine learning to develop unscripted walking animations, and they’ve turned into a highlight of the technical test so far, something the Queen seems poised to elevate even further.
As the name would imply, Night Raids take place entirely in the dark, and, with the Queen’s presence, seem to feature stronger resistance from ARC. The bots are already exceptionally challenging, especially when Raiders are not well-equipped. Players are learning to avoid them unless conflict is absolutely necessary, but the Queen will no doubt have valuable components that players could acquire if one were to be taken down.
ARC Raiders’ Tech Test 2 Is Off To A Great Start
The Long Wait Seems To Be Paying Off
For those who have been following ARC Raiders since it was first revealed in 2021, Tech Test 2 feels like a long time coming. The floodgates have not been completely opened, but invites to the tech test seem plentiful, and with no restrictions on streaming or footage, there’s plenty of excitement building around the game. It will be Embark Studios’ second release following 2023’s The Finals, and ARC Raiders‘ gameplay shifted from purely PvE co-op to a PvPvE extraction shooter mid-development.
That will put it in direct competition with Bungie’s Marathon, which similarly lifted the NDA on its closed alpha in April. Despite being a technical test, though, ARC Raiders puts a strong foot forward with relatively polished gameplay. An interesting twist like Night Raids is sure to get ARC Raiders players excited as well, and the Queen will let them get a taste of just how dangerous the Rust Belt can be.
