The King of the Hill revival is set to arrive in summer 2025, and Hank Hill’s return is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Joining the FOX network’s comedy scene in 1997, King of the Hill follows the everyday life of earnest propane salesman Hank Hill, who lives in the fictional town of Arlen, Texas with his outgoing wife Peggy and their quirky son Bobby. Compared to more absurd comedies like The Simpsons, King of the Hill set itself apart with its down-to-earth characters and relatable themes.

The King of the Hill revival is being helmed by the minds behind the original series, with Mike Judge and Greg Daniels returning to front the project. Despite ending over a decade ago, King of the Hill is still considered Mike Judge’s best work and has always been a strong candidate for revival. Because the characters have aged since the show went off the air, the King of the Hill revival will explore what Hank and company have been up to in the intervening years. This makes for a truly unique revival experience and the new show won’t just be a rehash of the original series.

With the revival slowly progressing behind-the-scenes for several years, the latest news finally confirms the release window for the return of King of the Hill. Though so much of the series is still being kept under wraps for now, it has been confirmed that King of the Hill will premiere on Hulu at some point in the summer of 2025. A more specific release date is expected to arrive soon, and the cast and crew of the series will be making an appearance at 2025’s ATX TV Festival in late May.

The revival is confirmed, and King of the Hill was picked up by Hulu in January 2023. Before Hulu became involved, Judge and Daniels had been planning a King of the Hill reboot since 2017, negotiating with FOX, but the deal ultimately fell through. Its appearance on Hulu might take a bit of the strain off of King of the Hill to perform well in the ratings department, and it can instead put up solid streaming numbers with die-hard fans without having to appease a large network.

Since the show was announced, news has been rather slow regarding King of the Hill. Cast details have been made available, and some story elements teased, but the revival is largely being kept under wraps. However, Hulu announced that the series will premiere at some point in summer 2025, though an exact date won’t be known for some time. The date will likely be in the latter days of summer, since the cast and crew are set to appear at 2025’s ATX TV Festival in late May and early June.

King of the Hill originally ended in 2010.

The King Of The Hill Revival Cast

The Original Cast Is Returning

the passing of Brittany Murphy (Luanne Platter) and Tom Petty (Lucky) will also need to be addressed

Along with the announcement made by Hulu in January 2023, the cast was revealed too, and almost every original voice actor is returning for the King of the Hill revival cast. There will be a few notable changes though, as the death of Johnny Hardwick (Dale Gribble) will either necessitate a recast or a writing off of the beloved character, though he did record dialog for a few episodes before he passed. Similarly, the passing of Brittany Murphy (Luanne Platter) and Tom Petty (Lucky) will also need to be addressed, and it hasn’t been revealed how those two characters will be handled in the reboot.

Another uncertainty hanging over the revival series is the casting of Hank’s cantankerous neighbor, Kahn. The Laotian-American character was voiced by Toby Huss throughout the original series, but the actor himself is not of Asian heritage. With shifting attitudes towards actors playing characters of different races, it’s highly unlikely that Huss will reprise the role.

Outside of that, the confirmed returning cast will include:

King of The Hill’s Revival: Every Key Question The Reboot Can Answer

King of the Hill is getting a revival set 15 years after the original, and it has the potential to answer some key questions still on viewer’s minds.

The King Of The Hill Revival Story

What Have The Hills Been Up To?

Peggy Bobby and Hank grilling in King of the Hill series finale

No one has disclosed significant story details outside a 15-year time jump in King of the Hill. This concept opens numerous possibilities for the King of the Hill revival story, showing older versions of the Hill family and their friends. Moreover, the revival has the potential to definitively conclude the series, especially considering that it’s not the only project Judge or Daniels are producing at the moment. The time jump might also be useful to explain the absence of several notable characters, like Luanne, Lucky, and Dale.

Though it was originally revealed to be a 15-year time jump, Pamela Adlon’s details about Bobby’s role in the show seem to suggest it’s somewhat shorter. The only character with any information thus far is Bobby, who will be 21 years old in the show and working as a chef at a restaurant in Dallas. He has turned his love of food into a genuine passion, and it seems as if he has matured beyond the class clown that was shown in the original series.

With their son now in his early 20s, the Hills will likely be going through some major life changes themselves. It could be that Hank is now the boss at Strickland Propane and could be on the eve of retirement, while Peggy’s career dabbling could have finally found her a more permanent occupation that makes her the primary bread winner. Similar flash-forward stories will probably be told for the rest of the main cast, but specific details of the King of the Hill revival are being kept under wraps.
