Apple TV+’s divisive period dramedy series Palm Royale has been renewed for a second season, and there are already a ton of exciting updates concerning season 2. Created for TV by Abe Sylvia (from the book Mr. & Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel), the series concerns wannabe socialite Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons (Kristen Wiig) as she tries to infiltrate the complicated social scene of 1960s Palm Beach, Florida. With its lavish costuming and set design, Palm Royale captured the stunning and over-the-top look of its period, while also offering a pointed critique of class and status in the United States.
Despite Palm Royale‘s stellar cast and heady ideas, the show was greeted with mixed reviews, and was hardly the critical darling that it was seemingly shaping up to be. Nevertheless, the sheer star power and intrigue of the show was enough to get plenty of people tuning in as it snagged 11 Emmy nominations in the process, and Apple TV+ renewed Palm Royale for a second season quite quickly. With many mysteries still unsolved, the sophomore outing of Palm Royale could give the show a chance to improve while maintaining all the elements that worked during its debut outing.
Palm Royale Season 2 Latest News
Broadway Legend Patti Lupon Joins The Cast
While work continues on the period drama, the latest news confirms that Broadway legend Patti Lupone will appear in Palm Royale season 2. Though no details about her character are known, Lupone did drop a few hints about how much she’ll appear. As reported by Deadline, Lupone herself revealed that she will be in three episodes of the forthcoming third season. She also mentioned working with Ricky Martin, which suggests that Robert will survive his cliffhanger gunshot wound.
Palm Royale Season 2 Is Confirmed
Apple TV+ Quickly Renewed The Series
Clearly banking on the potential popularity of the series, the first season intentionally contained a slew of cliffhangers that necessitated a follow-up season
Though the reviews for season 1 were lackluster, Palm Royale‘s debut season was a big success in terms of viewership. As such, Apple TV+ opted to renew the series about a month after the first season concluded in June 2024 (via The Hollywood Reporter). Clearly banking on the potential popularity of the series, the first season intentionally contained a slew of cliffhangers that necessitated a follow-up season. Filming began in September 2024 (via Collider) but a full timeline for the series’ return hasn’t been announced.
To celebrate the show’s renewal, Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss said:
“Palm Royale has delighted global audiences and we are thrilled that viewers will have the opportunity to spend more time with this highly entertaining, iconic cast, from Kristen Wiig to the incomparable Carol Burnett. We can’t wait for everyone to experience the next brilliantly witty chapter in the lives of the Palm Beach high society set that Abe Sylvia, Kristen, Laura Dern and this incredible team behind the show have brought so vibrantly to life.”
Depending on when the sophomore season wraps, it’s possible that it could arrive at some point in 2025. However, if it stretches on for too long, it will likely be held over until the following year. Apple TV+ is usually pretty consistent with announcing their yearly slates, but Palm Royale has been conspicuously absent from the news.
Palm Royale season 1 concluded on May 8, 2025.
Palm Royale Season 2 Cast Details
The Star-Studded Ensemble Will Return In Season 2
Even though Palm Royale season 1 ended on few shocking twists, the cast of the series is expected to remain intact going into season 2. A few returns are guaranteed, including SNL alum Kristen Wiig as aspiring socialite Maxine, who is devoted to her deceptive husband Douglas (played by Josh Lucas), who will also likely return. Also returning is Carol Burnett as the devious Norma Dellacorte, who spent the entire first season plotting ways to kill Maxine and get out of her conservatorship.
Ricky Martin’s Robert Diaz may have been shot in the season finale, but since his death wasn’t shown, it’s expected that he’ll recover. Meanwhile, the gripping conflict between Evelyn (Allison Janney) and Linda (Laura Dern) is only just getting started, and those two powerhouse actors will also return. Among a slew of other potential returns, the cast has already grown with the addition of Full House star John Stamos in an as-yet-unnamed role, as well as comedy legend Vicki Lawrence, who will reunite with former co-star and creative partner Carol Burnett.
Broadway icon Patti Lupone (Agatha All Along) has confirmed she will appear in three episodes of the forthcoming season, but no details about her character have been revealed. She may somehow be connected to Norma, though the setting does make for a wealth of new cast members coming and going without much connection to the other characters.

Palm Royale Season 2 Story Details
A Ton Of Cliffhangers Left Over From Season 1
To say that season 1 of Palm Royale left a lot of unanswered questions would be an understatement, and it’s clear that it merely set the stage for an explosive second season. Having spoken her mind about everyone at Palm Royale while performing onstage, Maxine made enemies out of the socialites she was trying to befriend, and the fallout will be unimaginable. On a more personal level, she will also have to deal with her husband’s infidelity, and the baby he is expecting with another woman.

Meanwhile, Norma’s machinations to knock off Maxine aren’t over, even if her initial plan failed. This means she’ll be going after her in-law, and Maxine’s life could still be in danger. Robert was shot in the season 1 finale, and his fate has yet to be revealed, and Evelyn’s battle against her step-daughter, Linda, is just heating up.
