Mimes are a unique enemy in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 that can be found in many different areas across the Continent. These enemies have extremely high defenses and are incredibly strong, so it’s imperative that you master their attack timing if you want to defeat all the Mimes in the game. There is also a trophy/achievement associated with defeating one specific Mime enemy in the late game, and all Mime enemies typically drop either an outfit or new hairstyle for one or more of the various characters.

As you explore Clair Obscur’s many different areas and run into numerous enemy types, Mimes will be found all across the Continent, sometimes even directly on the Continent itself. Mimes all have the same move sets, but as you progress farther into the game, there will sometimes be more than one Mime in a single location, or they will be accompanied by additional enemies that need to be defeated as well. Further, Mimes in the later stages of the game are much more powerful and have even higher defensive capabilities, making them some of the toughest enemies to take down.

How To Defeat Mimes In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Mimes Immediately Build A Defensive Wall On Combat Start

Mimes are unique enemies found in side and main areas throughout the Continent, and they require some diligence to defeat. At the beginning of combat, Mimes will build a wall of protection that buffs its health and defenses substantially, even if you have First Strike. There’s no way to prevent this from happening as it’s the core feature of the Mime enemies. When fighting Mimes, you’ll want to equip skills and weapons in Clair Obscur that deal high Break Bar buildup and/or have the Break ability, such as Gustave’s Overcharge skill.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Best Maelle Build Guide (Skills, Weapons, & Pictos)

Maelle is one of the best playable characters in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and her best build includes her fire-based skills and Virtuose Stance.

Mimes all have the same two offensive combo attacks. The first attack it uses is a hand combo which includes three strikes, a left-hand swing followed by a right followed by a head bash. These are easily parryable once you get the timing down, and you’ll want to commit that to muscle memory as it will come in handy in all Mime fights going forward. The second attack is a chaotic strike with the Mime hammer, which includes four total strikes, the first two being quick in succession followed by a brief pause and two more slightly slower attacks.

There are many ways to break Shields in case a Mime ends up getting buffed during combat, but using Free Aim to eliminate Shields before using a Skill is the best method.

As you advance farther into the game, Mimes will be accompanied by additional enemies, or there may even be multiple Mimes in a single combat encounter. The best strategy is to try to parry each attack, as this will typically build up massive Break Bar damage. Once you Break them, it’s very easy to deal significant damage if they are Stunned, so take advantage of the Break Bar.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Complete Character Build Guide

There are six playable characters in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, each with their own unique combat style, weapons, and massive selection of skills.

In summary, Mimes are unique enemies with high defenses that require you to build up Break Bar damage and stun them to deplete their health. They generally drop outfits and haircuts as rewards, and they also award quite a bit of experience. Their move sets are generally the same, though their overall health and defenses will become exponentially greater as you advance through each Act. Sometimes Mimes will be accompanied by other enemies, but none are undefeatable if you have properly leveled and set up your party in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
