Assemble Entertainment has announced that seven classic Leisure Suit Larry games are retiring from Steam soon. The irreverent franchise has been out since the late 1980s, bringing a touch of adult humor to the point-and-click adventure genre. Larry has made a comeback in the past decade, returning for some new adventures that took him into the 21st century, and while those newer games will remain on Steam, all the earlier games in the series will soon be taken down.

According to the Leisure Suit Larry Steam page, every game in the retro collection will be retired and delisted from Steam soon, although no specific date is listed for when this will happen. The announcement states that “After decades of questionable pickup lines and unforgettable adventures, it’s finally time for Larry to hang up his leisure suit—at least the retro version of it!” At this time, no explanation was shared regarding the reason why the games are being taken down.

The Entire Leisure Suit Larry Collection Will Be Removed From Steam Soon

You Can Still Play It If You Already Own It

The Leisure Suit Larry games, created by Al Lowe, follow the adventures of the titular Larry Laffer through stories full of innuendos and double entenders. The games generally focus on the lovable loser’s failed attempt to win over any of the beautiful women he comes across as he explores casinos, resorts, hotels, and other glamorous locations. The following titles will be delisted from Steam:

  • Leisure Suit Larry – Magna Cum Laude Uncut and Uncensored
  • Leisure Suit Larry 1 – In the Land of the Lounge Lizards
  • Leisure Suit Larry 2 – Looking For Love (In Several Wrong Places)
  • Leisure Suit Larry 3 – Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals
  • Leisure Suit Larry 5 – Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work
  • Leisure Suit Larry 6 – Shape Up Or Slip Out
  • Leisure Suit Larry 7 – Love for Sail

Luckily for fans of the Leisure-suit-wearing, wise-cracking, woman-chasing Larry, fans who already own the titles will still be able to play them. Anyone new to the games, though, will have to get a hold of the retro titles from the franchise somewhere else. The announcement doesn’t mention if the games will also be removed from other storefronts, where they’re often available as very affordable bundles containing all seven titles—at least for the time being.

Leisure Suit Larry Remasters May Be On The Way

The Removal Might Indicate There Are Plans Brewing For The Series

Leisure Suit Larry Wet Dreams Dry Twice

Although Larry’s womanizing ways are outdated, Assemble Entertainment has done its best to bring the character back with all the original humor intact in Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry and the sequel, Wet Dreams Dry Twice, developed by CrazyBunch. It’s possible that the move to delist the classic titles from Steam may mean that a new game is on the way.

Point-and-click games are starting to make a comeback, but these classics of the genre are definitely worth revisiting or playing for the first time.

Alternatively, Assemble Entertainment might be planning something even bigger, like a remastered collection. Since the publisher has been slowly reintroducing Larry to the world through new games, releasing remasters of the titles makes sense as a next step, perhaps taking the cue from the Oblivion remaster that was shadow released last week. At this time, no specific retirement date has been shared for the Leisure Suit Larry games. But if you don’t own the retro titles yet, this might be your last chance to buy them.
