The most terrifying secret boss in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is Nightmare Geese, the spirit of Geese Howard resurrected for one more fight. This version of Geese is a relentless foe, using all his old tricks from previous games to decimate anyone in his path. However, it is difficult to even find Nightmare Geese, as you are only able to beat him in one game mode.
Nightmare Geese appears alongside Fallen Rock as one of two secret bosses. Both bosses use moves from Geese Howard, one of the strongest characters in the King of Fighters and Fatal Fury series, but each is different from the other. Nightmare Geese does not have as much depth as other characters on the main roster, and cannot be unlocked as a playable character as of this time of writing.
Where To Find Nightmare Geese
Search South Town For A Vengeful Spirit
Ever since Geese Howard’s defeat at the hands of Terry Bogard, his spirit has lingered like a vengeful ghost around South Town. As a result, you are only able to encounter Nightmare Geese within the Episodes of South Town solo RPG mode. This single-player mode has you select a character and challenge fighters all around the titular City of the Wolves to earn XP, level up, and grow stronger.
Those who’ve played World Tour mode in Street Fighter 6 will find similarities in Fatal Fury: CotW‘s Episodes of South Town mode. Both modes offer XP for winning fights with changing mechanics, so you can level up and face tougher opponents.
Depending on the character you play, the enemies in Episodes of South Town will change as you explore different regions. The goal of this RPG mode is to progress exploration in every section of South Town to 100% while advancing a character’s story. As you roam around South Town, you’ll continue challenging other fighters and leveling up to increase your damage, defense, and other qualities of your chosen character.

Nightmare Geese does not appear for every character in the game, even if you explore all of South Town. For example, Nightmare Geese will not show up for Ronaldo in Fatal Fury: CotW, no matter how high a Level you reach with that fighter. You need to be playing the following characters for a chance to unlock a fight with Nightmare Geese:

- Kim Dong Hwan
During some stories, you may get to find Nightmare Geese multiple times, with him growing in strength each time you face him. The hardest version of Nightmare Geese can be found in South Town+ difficulty in Episodes of South Town. This version of Nightmare Geese is Level 80, located at the Geese Tower (Dark) Stage on East Island, so make sure you are at least equal to his strength before this final challenge.
How To Beat Nightmare Geese
Embrace Your Inner Warrior Or Be Left Discarded
While earlier fights against Nightmare Geese are fairly straightforward, the Level 80 variant of the secret boss is the hardest fight in the game. The strongest version of Nightmare Geese does insane damage, taking out almost all your health in just a few hits. You need to have perfect execution on your combos and the right instincts to avoid attacks to make it out of this fight as the victor.
Nightmare Geese has access to a multitude of parries to counter your attacks, lethal projectiles, and powerful close-range strikes that deal massive damage. Furthermore, Nightmare Geese’s Level 80 form has S.P.G. throughout the whole fight. This resource is normally limited to when you reach a health value you choose, but this boss can wield its benefits at any time with no risks.
The constant S.P.G. afforded to the Level 80 Nightmare Geese allows him to always be able to use his Hidden Gear, a powerful super move that resets the boss’s Rev Gauge. Nightmare Geese is a rare opponent with three types of super moves, including a powerful counter that punishes over-aggressive foes.
Here are some helpful strategies that may give you the upper hand in your fight against Nightmare Geese:
- Jump over Geese’s Reppu Ken projectile
- Wait for Nightmare Geese to attempt a parry
- Stay just outside of mid-range to avoid Geese’s longest strike
- Land short, damaging combos to avoid going into Overheat
The most dangerous aspect of Nightmare Geese is his damage, so don’t allow the boss to land a full combo against you. Geese’s Reppu Ken is wide, but short, giving you a chance to jump over it and deliver some healthy damage at times. Always make sure to land your combos consistently, as dropping one might give Nightmare Geese an opening to deliver defeat to you within seconds.
Unlike Fallen Rock, Nightmare Geese prioritizes close-range power over speed, so try to stay out of Geese’s best range to avoid his offense. Flying leg strikes and leaping crescent slashes are still dangerous tools in Geese’s arsenal, but the further away you are, the easier they will be to see coming. Don’t get too aggressive, though, as Geese is infamous in SNK fighting game titles for using parries to stop enemy momentum in its tracks.
