A new K-drama, Resident Playbook, has been added to Netflix’s library, but not all episodes are yet available for streaming. Written by Kim Song-hee, the medical K-drama focuses on the trials of four residents in the obstetrics and gynecology department at Jongno Yulje Medical Center. Resident Playbook is the third installment in the Wise Life series, which includes Hospital Playlist and Prison Playbook. The Hospital Playlist spinoff was initially supposed to air on tvN in the latter half of 2024 but was delayed.

In the past few years, Netflix has been investing in K-dramas, which has resulted in the streamer having several successful shows such as Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead, and Sweet Home. While some of the K-dramas on Netflix are originals, the streaming platform also includes those that originally aired in South Korea before being added to its library, as was the case with When the Stars Gossip. With Resident Playbook entering Netflix’s Global 10 non-English shows, it’s worth looking at how many episodes the K-drama will have and when it will come to a conclusion.

Resident Playbook season 1 will consist of 12 episodes, and each of them has a confirmed release date. Similar to Hospital Playlist, the Resident Playbook episodes have a runtime between 70 minutes to 90 minutes. Resident Playbook premiered on Netflix on April 12, 2025, and so far, only four episodes of the medical K-drama have been added to the streamer’s library. The series is expected to run until mid-May.

However, this date only works assuming there are no interruptions in the broadcasting. Previous K-dramas that were initially released on Korean broadcasting channels ran longer than they should have due to there being a hiatus.

The four Resident Playbook episodes have introduced audiences to the main characters of the K-drama, the relationships they have with each other, and the struggles they are facing on their journey as residents. TvN hasn’t announced how many seasons of Resident Playbook there will be. Since the Korean TV show is only four episodes in, it is too soon to tell. However, Resident Playbook is set in the same universe as Hospital Playlist, which has two seasons. So it’s entirely possible that Resident Playbook would have the same number of seasons as its parent show. But if the K-drama concludes with all storylines perfectly wrapped up, there might be no need for a sophomore season.

Hospital Playlist premiered in 2020 with a second season following a year later. The K-drama was extremely popular, and fans of the show were expecting a third season. But there hasn’t been any news about whether there will indeed be a Hospital Playlist season 3. On the other hand, if there were to be a Resident Playbook season 2, then it might follow the residents into their second year at Jongno Yulje Medical Center.
