Enchanting your weapons in Oblivion Remastered is a good way to improve your gear and increase the amount of damage you output. It can also help you battle creatures like ghosts using weapons which can’t typically be harmed by non-magical means. You may have already found some enchanted weapons, but need to know how to recharge their unique abilities.

To get started with enchanting in Oblivion Remastered, you’ll need to find an Altar of Enchanting. One option is to visit Frostcrag Spire which is just above the letter U in the “County” of County Bruma on the game’s map. Alternatively, you can join the Mages Guild to gain access to Altars of Enchanting at the Arcane University in the Chironasium and Arch-Mage’s quarters. However, you’ll need to do quite a few quests to gain access to the university, so Frostcrag Spire can be easier. Once you find the altar, you’ll need to follow the steps for enchanting a weapon.

How To Enchant Weapons & Refill Soul Gems

You Can Enchant Weapons At Altars Of Enchanting With Soul Gems

Enchanting weapons is a four-step process once you find an Altar of Enchanting. First, you’ll be prompted to select the item you wish to enchant. The next step is choosing a Soul Gem. The better quality the gem is, the more powerful your enchantment can be. After that, you’ll be presented with a list of effects that you can add to your item, be that a specific type of damage, or a static effect.

Oblivion Remastered is absolutely amazing, and the game I wanted it to be, but one major issue is holding me back from truly loving it.

Finally, you’ll be presented with some sliders that can change aspects of the effect. For example, with a damage effect, this means changing how much damage, the area of effect, and the duration of it. Increasing these sliders will adjust how many charges each use of the weapon uses up, how many uses you get before needing a recharge, and the overall cost of the enchantment. These statistics are represented by the lightning bolt, candle, and coin symbols at the bottom of the page, respectively.

If your weapon runs out of charge, you can refill it by selecting a Soul Gem in your inventory which will bring up a menu of your enchanted items. This will show how many extra charges the chosen gem will provide for the selected item. You don’t have to be at an Altar of Enchanting to recharge your enchanted weapons.

How To Refill Soul Gems

To refill used Soul Gems, you will need to use the Soul Trap spell. Cast it on an enemy right before defeating it, and once it dies its soul will be used to fill your gem. You can pick this spell up at a Mage’s Guild from a spell merchant. For example, I got mine from Druja in Skingrad. You need 80 Magicka to cast the spell, so at least a 40 Intelligence score, unless you have other bonuses from your Birthsign or race. This isn’t a huge requirement, and easy to dip into for any class.

You can play as a vampire in Oblivion Remastered, but it comes with so many gameplay changes and special considerations that you should know first.

You can also learn more potent versions of the spell to charge more powerful gems. For instance, the Mystic Emporium in the Imperial City Market District sells Greater Soul Trap which can be used to create Greater Soul Gems. With enchanted items being a huge benefit in Oblivion Remastered, it’s worth at least learning some level of the Soul Trap spell to help keep your weapons charged.
