If you’re starting your journey in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered and looking to get up to no good, joining the Thieves Guild is a good option for you. Joining the guild has a few perks, including special missions, and the ability to sell stolen items to one of the guild’s merchants. However, joining the Thieves Guild isn’t quite as simple as joining one of the game’s other organizations, so you’ll need to know where to look and who to talk to.
Unlike the Fighters Guild and Mages Guild, the Thieves Guild doesn’t have a clearly marked headquarters in each city. As a group of underground criminals, they obviously can’t just throw up flags and a sign on the outside of a building in the town square. Instead, you’ll have to poke around and hunt down rumors concerning them. This makes joining the guild more rewarding and more thematic than some of your other options. If you want to become a master of the five-finger discount in Oblivion Remastered, here’s how you can join this network of thieves.
Where To Find The Thieves Guild
You Can Meet The Guild In The Imperial City
To find the Thieves Guild, you’ll want to travel to the Imperial City. Oblivion Remastered‘s features make this easy, as you’re able to fast travel to any major city in the game as soon as you’ve finished the prologue. Head into town and keep an eye out for wanted posters. Probably the easiest one to find is at the Imperial City Waterfront, on the archway that leads away from the city. Reading the wanted poster will teach you about the Gray Fox, a Robin-Hood-type figure who is the leader of the Thieves Guild.

A game designer for the original Oblivion has spoken out after Oblivion Remastered was released, acknowledging how much impressive work was done.
Once you’ve learned about the Gray Fox, you can start asking around about him. NPCs will inform you that the master thief uses the city’s beggars as his eyes and ears. Speak to a beggar and raise your disposition with them. You can do this through the persuasion tab, which allows you to bribe NPCs or play a persuasion mini-game to raise disposition. Once the beggar trusts you, ask them about the Gray Fox and they will help you join the Thieves Guild.
How To Join The Thieves Guild
You’ll Be Given A Test Assignment To Prove Your Thief Skills
Once you’ve gained a beggar’s trust, you’ll be directed to meet Armand Christophe at midnight behind a house near the Imperial City Waterfront. This will also start a quest and give you a quest marker to follow to the meeting place. Once there, Armand and two other NPCs, Methredhel and Amusei, will appear. Talk to Armand and ask to join the Thieves Guild. You’ll need a high disposition with him, and the quickest way to get one will be through bribes, so make sure you have some coins on hand. Once Armand accepts, he’ll give you a task.

Does The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered Have Mod Support?
Extensive mod support tends to be one of the defining features of Bethesda RPGs, but Oblivion Remastered’s changes set up a different situation.
Pitting you and the other two aspiring guild members against each other, Armand will instruct the three of you to retrieve Amantius Allectus’ journal from their home by breaking in and taking it. You’ll need to pick some locks, so I recommend buying some from Armand for five gold a piece before heading out. You’re also forbidden from killing your competition, since the Thieves Guild only approves of taking out Dark Brotherhood members.
Methredhel sprints off and heads directly to the house you’re headed to. Simply follow her, and she’ll lead you right where you want to go. Even though this means she’ll get inside before you, the game still lets you pick the lock on the desk inside before her and take the book. Once you have it, simply return it to Armand and you will be the newest official member of the Thieves Guild.

All Achievements & Trophies In The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has 60 different trophies related to its main and faction quests. Here’s how to achieve all of them.
There are a few ways the quest can go wrong. For instance, Methredhel can get the book before you if you’re not quick enough. If she does, you can try to pickpocket it off her. If this fails, don’t worry. Even if you don’t retrieve the book first, Armand will give you a replacement task that you can complete to still become a member of the guild.
Armand asks you to steal Rohssan’s Antique Cutlass, which is kept in Rohssan’s shop, A Fighting Chance, located in the Imperial City Merchant District. You’ll need to go to the store after hours and break in with a lockpick. You’ll want to head upstairs, and find a locked chest which you’ll also need to pick open. The store also has a guard dog. Killing it doesn’t affect the test, but if you don’t want to murder a pup who’s just doing its job, you can sneak past instead. Once you’ve finished, you will be welcomed into Oblivion Remastered‘s Thieves Guild.
