There is a virtually endless supply of memes from the original release of Oblivion, a lot of new ones have been arising since the release of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered last week, and one of those is aimed at paying tribute to the “helpful” true heroes of Cyrodill. In various parts of Oblivion, you will sometimes be joined by NPCs that will fight alongside you. A few of those NPCs are so strong that they might be too helpful, especially during one early main quest if it’s attempted at a low level.
In a Reddit post created by murderously-funny, fans are commenting about a new meme that shows off and makes fun of how strong the Imperial Guard NPCs are in the game, with the iconic dialogue from the game: “How can we help?” The meme and comments depict and describe Imperial Guards as “Chads” for how helpful and strong they are. The Imperial Guards show up to assist in an early main quest called “Breaking the Siege of Kvatch,” which is when most players will experience the awesome might of an Imperial Guard.
Imperial Guards Can Sometimes Be A Big Help
But Their Mileage May Vary
As pointed out in the Reddit thread, some players are seeing the Imperial Guards wreck enemies before the player even has a chance to do anything, and others are questioning their usefulness. The Imperial Guards cannot be commanded, unlike annoying Adoring Fan and some other Oblivion companions, so they can die rather easily if the main quest is attempted at too high a level. The higher your level, the stronger the enemies will be during the Kvatch quest.

User Leading-Leading6319 stated they tried to protect the Imperial Guards, but they got themselves killed, saying: “Unfortunately, one of them decided they could take on a big walking lizard twice his size that I’ve been tanking specifically so that none of them would die. Thank you for your service but unfortunately your death was highly unnecessary my good lad.” Fans have celebrated all quirks of Oblivion being maintained in the remaster, so players are probably happy to see the Imperial Guards still show so much bravery, even when their deaths might be in vain.
Oblivion Remastered Is Full Of Unsung Heroes
The NPCs Are Finally Getting The Thanks They Deserve
There are quite a few times NPCs assist throughout Oblivion‘s main quest and even in some of the side content. The player character isn’t the only hero of the game, with noble citizens, guilds, and, of course, guards wanting to fight back the jaws of Oblivion. With a lot of new and veteran players diving into the Oblivion remaster and the game being quite different than Skyrim, it’s a strong reminder of how innovative the NPCs were back in 2006.
Even though the usefulness of some NPCs will depend on players’ current levels, it’s still nice to see how helpful the Imperial Guards and other NPCs are willing to be in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. Even if the NPCs die tragically in a big battle, there seems to always be a fun story for players to tell from NPC experiences.
