As you make your way through Act 2 of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 , you’ll come across the Tisseur, an optional boss in the Sirene area who is hard at work at his sewing machine. As you approach the area, your party will start to discuss whether it’s a good idea to fight the seemingly peaceful enemy, and it won’t be immediately clear what the consequences are of letting him continue with his work. However, the ultimate choice between fighting the Tisseur or leaving him be is fairly straightforward. This article contains spoilers for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.Sirene is a massive area to explore in Clair Obscur that has a handful of tough enemies, including a couple of mini-bosses, such as a Glissando, blocking your way to the main boss arena. While most enemies in Clair Obscur will be hostile and even chase you down, the Tisseur is a unique boss in that you have to actually speak with him and choose to attack. The Tisseur is a somewhat difficult fight if you don’t have your Clair Obscur party build set up for success, but I highly recommend taking it on before going in to fight Sirene.
What Happens If You Spare The Tisseur In Clair Obscur
Sparing The Tisseur Gives Sirene Advantages In Combat
If you decide not to fight the Tisseur or can’t manage to take him down, you’re going to have a much harder time defeating the main boss in the area, the Axon enemy Sirene. Depending on your skill level, Sirene will already be difficult enough as it is, but the Tisseur actually gives her additional buffs during the main boss fight that make the battle even more challenging. If you spare the Tisseur, Sirene can call upon him during combat to come in and give her an additional four shields.

There are three “secret” bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and each one is extremely difficult to take down if you’re not prepared.
You will also be missing out on excellent rewards by skipping the Tisseur fight, including a Pictos that is critical in the fight against Sirene. Sparing the Tisseur seemingly has no gameplay benefits whatsoever. When you spare the Tisseur, you end up fighting and killing him anyway during Sirene’s battle, so even for roleplaying and story purposes, his fate remains the same regardless of your choice.
What Happens If You Kill The Tisseur In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Killing The Tisseur Makes Sirene Easier
When you choose to attack and defeat the Tisseur, Sirene no longer has the ability to summon him during battle and gain the additional four shields. Additionally, killing the Tisseur rewards two excellent items, including the Tissenum
, a powerful defensive weapon for Maelle that is perfect for a Break build, and the Anti-Charm
Pictos, which is essential for the upcoming fight against Sirene. During Sirene’s fight, there will be a handful of Charm attacks that can be devastating if not mitigated or avoided.

Charm is a status effect that prevents a character from taking a turn and instead forces them to attack one of their allies or even themselves. It’s brutal if not prevented, which is why I highly recommend equipping the Anti-Charm Pictos immediately after defeating the Tisseur and going out to win four battles in the area against some lesser enemies before taking on Sirene. This will allow you to equip the Anti-Charm effect as a Lumina passive on each character and avoid one of Sirene’s most powerful abilities altogether.
You Should Kill The Tisseur In Clair Obscur
There Are Only Downsides To Skipping This Optional Boss
While the Tisseur appears to be harmless when you first run into him at his sewing atelier, this is a bit of a red herring, and there are some major downsides to skipping the encounter. If you are under-leveled or can’t manage to defeat the Tisseur, try updating your character builds with skills and weapons that incorporate Fire and/or Light damage. You can also explore other areas before proceeding with the main story, and if you haven’t defeated the first Axon, it’s a good idea to go clear that area first for the XP, upgrades, and weapons.
Exploring optional areas in Clair Obscur is essential for getting better weapons, Pictos, and upgrade materials.
There aren’t many good reasons to spare the Tisseur. In terms of the story, the Tisseur’s death is inevitable, and his fate is sealed whether you fight him on his own or end up taking him down alongside Sirene. It could be argued that the two dying together is more poetic, but even that seems like a stretch in terms of upsides. Even if you are absolutely incapable of defeating the Tisseur, you should level up your party and come back later, as you will likely struggle to take on Sirene as well.
How To Beat The Tissuer In Clair Obscur (Boss Guide)
The Tisseur Is Weak To Fire & Light Damage
The Tisseur is not all that tough of a boss if you are properly set up with Fire and Light-based skills and weapons on each of your active party members. In particular, I recommend Lune and Maelle, incorporating skills such as Rain of Fire
or Wildfire. The Breaking Burn
and Double Burn
Pictos/Luminas are very useful against the Tisseur and will enhance Burn effects from said skills. At this point, you should also be able to upgrade your relationship levels in Clair Obscur to unlock each character’s second Gradient Skill.

Verso is a powerful stance-breaking character in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and with high critical rate can deal extreme damage to any enemy.
The Tisseur will Curse the entire party at the start of his turn, which gives each of them eight turns before automatically dying. Each party member can be revived upon death, but the Curse can be cast again, and the countdown will reset. Aside from this Curse, the Tisseur’s other attacks are limited in number, but they may take a few tries to master the timing for parries and dodges. Ultimately, Fire damage is crucial and will take out its health way faster than most other elements, though Light damage is effective as well.
Overall, you should definitely fight and kill the Tisseur in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, as there are only downsides to sparing him. Anti-Charm is one of a handful of different Pictos that provide immunity to status effects, and all of them are worth having in your arsenal for different occasions. Further, the Tissenum weapon is worth having around, and can be utilized in a range of different defensive or Break-damage based builds. Lastly, the fight against Sirene will be much easier, as she won’t be able to call on the Tisseur and you’ll have the Anti-Charm effect active.
