As Terry Pratchett’s beloved fantasy series Discworld gets its own shared universe of new adaptations, his daughter Rhianna Pratchett reveals that she’ll be adapting one of her favorite novels by her father. Fans will be excited to know Rhianna Pratchett is such a fan of the novel she’s adapting, and that the new shared universe will be getting such an undeniably strong start.

Starting in 2026, a new series of graphic novels will adapt Terry Pratchett’s Thief of Time, Monstrous Regiment and The Wee Free Men, kicking off what publishers Transworld and Puffin are calling a “Discworld Graphic Novel Universe.”

Rhianna Pratchett will be the writer adapting The Wee Free Men, building on her prior comic work in Women of Marvel, Tomb Raider and Mirror’s Edge, with the creative teams and expected release dates for each comic below. Writing on TerryPratchett.com, Rhianna Pratchett states:

I’m delighted to be adapting The Wee Free Men, which is one of my favourite books by my father. Growing up in Wiltshire, England’s ‘Chalk Country’, and having a shepherdess grandmother makes it a very personal book for me, as well as being the gateway into the superb Tiffany Aching series. The book has so much heart, joy and humour that can be enjoyed by readers of all ages, and I hope the graphic novel collaboration with Puffin will open up these marvellous stories to a new audience.

Details for each new graphic novel are as follows:

  • Thief of Time will be adapted by Gary Chudleigh and Rachael Stott, coming April 2, 2026, from Transworld.
  • Monstrous Regiment will be adapted by Jon Wood and a TBA artist, coming Fall 2026 from Transworld.
  • The Wee Free Men will be adapted by Rhianna Pratchett and a TBA artist, coming Spring 2027 from Puffin.

Interesting, the novels chosen to adapt stay clear of most of Discworld’s recurring characters, such as Sam Vimes, Granny Weatherwax and Rincewind. This concept is a great way to grab new fans, who won’t need any prior knowledge to pick up any of the upcoming graphic novels.

The Wee Free Men tells the story of Tiffany Aching – a young girl who, while discovering her latent powers as a witch, befriends a tribe of fairies. However, rather than the delicate stereotype, the Nac Mac Feegle are brawling barbarians who love nothing more than drinking and fighting. The book is the start of the Tiffany Aching series, including A Hat Full of Sky, Wintersmith, I Shall Wear Midnight and The Shepherd’s Crown. The middle grade series is aimed at a younger audience than other Discworld novels, but includes cameos from recurring characters from the main series.

Discworld is a sprawling fantasy saga that takes a satirical perspective on well-worn fantasy tropes, while also telling thrilling stories set in a rapidly modernizing world still beset by werwolves, trolls and dragons. Now, Transworld and Puffin are giving readers a new way to discover and enjoy Terry Pratchett’s writing, and fans will be thrilled to know that his daughter and collaborator Rhianna Pratchett is so heavily involved, starting off the new shared universe with one of her personal Discworld favorites.

Thief of Time is coming April 2, 2026 from Puffin.
