The Pitt season 1’s most obnoxious character is getting set up for a potentially great arc in season 2, with the show already laying the groundwork for their future. The Pitt‘s characters all offer varied perspectives on what it’s like to work in a trauma hospital, aided by the series’ realism in its approach to medical events that transpire. However, this also means a number of viewpoints clash throughout the show. Some notable ones include Robby and McKay fighting over how to handle Daniel and his mother throughout the show, or the constant friction between Santos and Langdon.
However, medical perspectives outside of professionals in the field also permeate the series. Thanks to The Pitt‘s medical realism, a number of patients end up at the hospital for many hours, their stories showing the perspective of patients getting treated. Some are even connected to core characters, such as Jake, the son of Robby’s ex-girlfriend, whose relationship with him frays after the PittFest shooting. But one obnoxious patient with a key connection to another doctor might have a strong story for The Pitt season 2, with their development already in motion.

McKay’s Ex Might Still Have Feelings For Her
Chad, McKay’s ex, has all the groundwork being laid for a redemption arc going into next season. Arriving at the hospital with both a broken bone and the pair’s son, Harrison, he’s displayed as much more immature in contrast to the resident. In addition, he expressed some shame over his girlfriend, who kept trying to overstep in terms of her role in Harrison’s life. While on painkillers, Chad also expressed jealously over Mateo’s friendship with her, potentially setting up a storyline in The Pitt season 2 about him still harboring feelings for McKay.

Even with his mental health struggles, Dr. Robby is an excellent doctor, which made his negligence regarding one patient downright criminal.
One scene highlighting this possibility happens when he wanders into the ER as dozens of PittFest shooting victims are being treated. He watches in awe as McKay saves a patient, the realization on his face showing he never understood the difficulty of her work until that moment. Another is when he gets insulted by McKay’s father who comes to pick up Harrison; Chad doesn’t retaliate, as if he’s accepted that he’s been immature. While subtle, it does indicate he could come back, his journey of maturity continuing into the next season.
Chad Will Still Be Part Of Cassie’s Life In The Pitt Season 2
The Upcoming Time Jump Could Be Part Of His Maturity Journey

The Pitt creator R. Scott Gemmill has already confirmed season 2 will take place around 10 months after season 1 on a Fourth of July weekend. This time jump means Chad’s journey into growing more mature can gain some establishment, perhaps showcasing some of what he’s been doing to change. However, to truly explore his arc, it means his change can’t be completed just yet. He’ll need to get a chance to do the right thing and be the father Harrison deserves, whether it wins him McKay back or not.
Although it’s unclear what Chad’s future in The Pitt will hold, his moment of clarity watching McKay work and not trying to fight back her father’s insults signals his capacity for change. As for how that will play out, it’s unclear what committing himself to be a good father and person will look like. Hopefully, when season 2 does arrive, his maturity will be driven not just by his continued feelings for his ex, but also by the heartfelt desire to be better for everyone around him.
