Much longer words than you may be used to in Connections puzzles are prominent today, making it harder to find the right answers. The puzzle for today was challenging for me, especially compared to previous days when the available words were easier to interpret. However, larger words mean more straightforward definitions, making the right hints more helpful than ever.

Compared to many Wordle 5-letter words that have been used daily, today’s Connections puzzle uses some of the longest words in an NYT game. Despite the added complexity, this makes words have fewer definitions, but far less connective tissue pairing them together.

Today's Connections Hints & Answers For April 25, 2025 (Puzzle #684) Categories image

I was able to trip into success with today’s puzzle, solving one category accidentally through sheer trial and error. That being said, there are a couple of themes you can follow to help you get started. Through my experiments with certain pairings, I discovered that today’s puzzle focuses on beginnings and titles, marking how categories are organized based on what to call concepts rather than what they do.

For those struggling with today’s puzzle, here are some helpful clues to give you a good head start on figuring out each category topic:

  • One category is about things related to the flavors of a food you can chew and blow bubbles with.
  • One category is about things related to terms used to describe the beginning of a journey.
  • One category is about things related to music titles from a famous source.
  • One category is about things related to prefixes used to describe small, cylindrical objects or body parts.

Yellow Answers: Revealed & Explained

GUM FLAVORS

BUBBLEGUM

CINNAMON

MENTHOL

WINTERGREEN

This part of the puzzle was the easiest for me, as BUBBLEGUM already had me thinking of gum flavors to begin with. Although I usually stick to normal BUBBLEGUM, CINNAMON, and MENTHOL are common flavors that I’ll sometimes get sticks of from my friends when we get together. Similarly, most brands of gum have a WINTERGREEN flavor, which is also common enough to include, as that word doesn’t have another definition that stands out.

CATALYST

LAUNCHPAD

SPARK

SPRINGBOARD

This section of the puzzle had me stumped at first, but only after I had already put SPARK and CATALYST together. These two words represented a spark of inspiration in my head, or the formation of an idea. To help me find the other words, I remembered that sometimes you SPRINGBOARD an idea to others to start a project, which acts as a LAUNCHPAD to a greater concept when everyone brainstorms at the same time.

AUTUMN LEAVES

SUMMERTIME

UNFORGETTABLE

WITCHCRAFT

This part of the puzzle was the most difficult for me, as many of the terms in this category left me confused. Originally, I put AUTUMN LEAVES with SUMMERTIME and WINTERGREEN to represent seasons, but this only held part of the right answer. Then, I realized both WITCHCRAFT and UNFORGETTABLE were songs from the 1950s, leading me to look up the other terms as music to help them fit into the proper category.

Purple Answers: Revealed & Explained

___TUBE

FALLOPIAN

INNER

TEST

VACUUM

On the surface, I struggled to find connections between these words, but FALLOPIAN was the one I started with. This word may seem complex, but it only has one recognizable definition that would make sense for the puzzle – the Fallopian tube body part. I then focused on the word “tube” to narrow down the other words into the same category, starting with TEST and VACUUM and including INNER at the very end.
