To many people’s surprise, Tracker lost one of its few series regulars ahead of its season 2 premiere — Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin — and the show has yet to address one significant issue caused by her absence. The CBS action drama is based on Jeffery Deaver’s 2019 book The Never Game, following Colter Shaw, an expert survivalist and rewardist with a dark past. Despite being described as a “lone wolf,” Colter often relies on his friends (a group that once included Teddi) to help him solve cases. They aid Tracker‘s main character in his searches for missing people and things.
CBS renewed Tracker for a third season a few months before season 2 ends, and the upcoming episodes are set to debut sometime during the 2025–2026 network TV season.
Teddi, alongside her wife, Velma Bruin, worked as one of Colter’s handlers in Tracker. The couple would give Colter more insight into his cases via their research, and they were just a phone call away if Justin Hartley’s character needed their help. Unfortunately, Tracker wrote Teddi out of the show during the season 2 premiere. As fans learned, Teddi and Velma separated in the time between the events of season 1 and season 2. Consequently, Velma, who is still a main character in the series, moved her office into Reenie Greene’s new law firm, and Teddi hasn’t been seen ever since.
Teddi’s Exit Indirectly Shrunk Velma’s Role In Tracker Season 2
Velma Has Become All But Irrelevant
After Robin Weigert’s Teddi left Tracker, the CBS action drama noticeably reduced Velma’s role in its second season. Whereas season 1 was able to explore more of Velma’s character by showing her and Teddi’s home life, the same cannot be said in Teddi’s absence in season 2. With Teddi still around, she and Velma could continue their conversation after hanging up with Colter on the phone. Now, there is no one for Velma to talk to after said phone calls, and Tracker isn’t going to feature whole scenes of Abby McEnany’s character talking to herself when she is alone.

When Teddi was around, she and Velma could also coordinate with Reenie frequently, allowing them to be more integrated in Tracker‘s story. Now, it seems like Velma’s character is simply becoming irrelevant in season 2, which is a shame. The CBS series is pushing Velma away from the spotlight, despite her apparent importance in season 1, and she deserves better than that. Unfortunately, only a few episodes remain in Tracker season 2. As a result, the writers must address this issue in season 3.

Colter’s love life in Tracker is complicated, to say the least, but season 2, episode 17 teases that one of his ex-love interests is the one for him.
Tracker Season 3 Needs To Give Velma A Bigger Role (Even Without Teddi)
The CBS Series Must Figure Out What To Do With Velma
Even though Teddi exited Tracker in season 2, that doesn’t mean the show has to diminish Velma’s role, like it has been doing as of late. Velma is a character who can stand on her own. She doesn’t need a partner around to lift her up or give her worthwhile storylines. So, when Tracker season 3 premieres, the writers must figure out a way to incorporate Velma into the plot more, and they’re smart enough to do so.
Tracker season 3 needs to finally address Velma’s presence and relevance to the story, righting the wrongs season 2 made in the wake of Teddi’s departure.
The reality is that Teddi isn’t coming back. It’s time for Tracker to move on from Teddi and her relationship with Velma and give the latter character a bigger role in the CBS action drama series. Perhaps Velma can work more directly with Colter (like joining him in the field). Or Velma can become a more important part of Reenie’s law firm, and the show can explore their intriguing relationship. Whatever the case, Tracker season 3 needs to finally address Velma’s presence and relevance to the story, righting the wrongs season 2 made in the wake of Teddi’s departure.
