A possible Grand Theft Auto 6 leak may have just hinted at the answer to one of the biggest questions surrounding the game. Now, it’s important to note that there is no way to verify that this leak, posted by a since-deleted Reddit account, is accurate or even real. Although the post urges readers not to take it “as a grain of salt,” that typo alone is enough to make me take this leaked information at least somewhat salted. Still, if the information is accurate, it could hint at major news for the finished game.

There is a lot of speculation surrounding GTA 6, from more specific gameplay details to its potential $100 price tag. One source of speculation is about the size and scope of GTA 6‘s map, and I have even seen rumors that it will be bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2‘s map. This begs the question of whether GTA 6‘s Vice City will be a large, realistically sized depiction of Miami, or if it will include other areas of Florida, like how GTA 5 included areas reminiscent of northern California, and the desert.

New GTA 6 Leak Doesn’t Mention If It’s The Whole State

The Leak Focuses Primarily On NPC Behaviors

This recent GTA 6 leak, posted to Reddit by a since-deleted account, doesn’t directly answer whether GTA 6‘s map will attempt to condense the entire state, or simply focus on Vice City. The post focuses more on details regarding the behavior of certain NPCs, as well as the game’s new event system. According to the leaker, there will be certain events that happen in the world which will influence what NPCs do and wear. Whether dictated by an in-game calendar, or by progress in the story is unclear.

Alleged GTA 6 Leak Claims Game Features Seasonal Events, Life-Like NPC Schedules, & More

According to a user on Reddit who claims to have worked on GTA 6, the game will have seasonal events and life-like NPC schedules similar to real life.

In general, the information in the leak is somewhat limited, though this makes sense if the poster is telling the truth about having only briefly worked on the game. If they’re bluffing, then it also makes sense that they wouldn’t want to predict too much, at risk of sounding too knowledgeable or predicting something readers would immediately parse as fake. However, if true, there are hints in the information provided that could indicate GTA 6 won’t be focusing on an entire state.

Tourist NPCs Make It Seem Like GTA 6 Won’t Have An Entirely Playable State

The Focus On Tourists Make It Seem Like The Game Will Be Sticking To Vice City

According to the leak, GTA 6 will include NPCs who are tourists from multiple other locations in the GTA universe. This includes locations like GTA 5‘s Vespucci Beach, and GTA 4‘s Algonquin. There is also supposedly a feature that will make tourist NPCs dress up for local events like concerts by wearing special attire themed to that event. With such a heavy focus on tourism, this may mean that GTA 6 isn’t going to focus on areas of the state where there is less tourism, and instead stick to Vice City.

500 Days After The GTA 6 Trailer, I’m Still Obsessed With One Thing It Gets Right

Grand Theft Auto 6’s trailer works on a lot of levels, but there’s one thing that ties everything together, and I’m still not tired of it.

While I won’t pretend tourism to other parts of Florida doesn’t exist (I’ve personally done one of those Everglades airboat tours), the leak focuses on NPC behaviors like attending concerts and going to the beach. This makes me think that we are going to mostly be in Vice City and the surrounding neighborhoods, as opposed to visiting more rural areas. That said, this does seem to conflict with some information we already have about the game.

We’ve seen snippets of GTA 6 footage that appear to take place in locations based on the Everglades, or possibly even the Florida Keys. Of course, tourists could just be restricted to areas like Vice City, so that doesn’t necessarily mean other parts of the map don’t exist. It’s also worth noting that these leaks could just be entirely fake.

How Believable Are These New GTA 6 Leaks?

There Is Nothing To Verify The Credibility Of This Leak

I would be very skeptical of any information delivered this way. I joked about there being a typo in the first paragraph, but it’s the exact type of tactic that scam emails use to weed out any discerning readers who may not fall for the next part of the con. That said, to “take something with a grain of salt” is an idiom which can be difficult for non-native English speakers. Still, the post’s immediate insistence that it “isn’t trolling” is also a bit of a red flag to me, a real “methinks the [poster] doth protest too much” moment.

My Biggest GTA 6 Concern Started 5 Years Ago

I’m as excited for GTA 6 as anyone else, but there’s been a massively overlooked narrative problem brewing at Rockstar for several years.

There’s also the fact that this leak doesn’t reveal anything too revolutionary about GTA 6. Sure, I think it’s somewhat interesting that there will be more attention paid to how NPCs behave, but I struggle to see why sharing this information was deemed so important that the poster would risk violating the non-disclosure agreement that I’m certain Rockstar would have anyone working on the game sign. This, coupled with the poster’s insistence that people check back to see if they were right and seeming defensiveness over anyone doubting their legitimacy, makes me question the post’s validity.

In general, I’m hesitant to trust any anonymous source of information on the internet. This skepticism only increases when the post is about something like GTA 6 that has a lot of hype around it, and is guaranteed to get some clicks and interaction. That said, as one commenter on the post pointed out, it can still be fun just to speculate about these features being in the game, even if the post itself isn’t real.
